At the end of 2015, at the age of 54, I was diagnosed with breast cancer—two types, ductal and lobular. It was a large, stage three tumour, meaning it had spread beyond my breast and placed me in a high-risk category for recurrence.
Outwardly, I looked much the same. Inwardly, I was completely derailed. I was no longer the capable professional who showed up each day, did her job, and tried to keep everyone happy.The identity I had carefully constructed began to crumble.
This memoir grew from that unravelling. I began writing as a way to process the fear, grief, and uncertainty that followed my diagnosis. Then, in 2017, after presenting at a breast cancer conference, I experienced the power of shared stories. People connected not because their experiences were the same as mine, but because the feelings were. That was the impetus I needed to publish. Since then, I’ve heard from people sharing their own stories of illness, loss, and change. It has reinforced my belief in the importance of honest storytelling. It helps us feel less alone and better understand what it means to be human.
Breastless is not a “how-to” guide, but a collection of moments—honest reflections from a life interrupted and re-examined. It explores identity, vulnerability, and the emotional weight of life-changing moments.
This is my story—honest, imperfect, and real. I hope that somewhere within it, you find a piece of your own
Breastless Launch
On Valentine’s Day, 2021, Stacy Nottle launched he new book, , Breastless, at a beautiful fundraiser brunch, hosted be Liz Wagner. The event was a celebration of Community, Friendship and Art, raising $15,000 for Blush Cancer Care.
This book is beautiful. It’s raw, it’s honest, but most of all – it’s inspiring. Stacy shares the truth behind her journey and I feel incredibly humbled that she found comfort in my words as much as I have now found comfort in hers. This book connects us all. It’s not only for those that have been through breast cancer, but for anyone that just needs a reminder that they are braver than they think… and Stacy shows us exactly that. A truly amazing read.
